Safety, Security & Privacy
Q: Is it safe to use PinDL?
A: Yes. PinDL is a standard web application running under HTTPS. It does not run executable files or require local software installations, preventing malware risks.
Q: Do you track or log my search queries?
A: No. All parsed URL queries are processed immediately and are not stored. Local download history is kept purely in your browser's LocalStorage.
Q: Do you store my IP address?
A: We only store a cryptographically salted SHA-256 hash of your IP address (using process.env.IP_SALT) in our Redis rate-limiter, protecting your real IP from database leaks.
Q: Does PinDL contain malware or tracking cookies?
A: PinDL is clean and does not inject spyware or tracking cookies. We only use basic session analytics to optimize site performance.
Q: Why should I avoid downloading APK tools on Android?
A: Many third-party Android APK downloaders contain embedded malware or adware. Web downloaders like PinDL are much safer since they run in sandboxed browsers.
Q: Is my browser extension safe?
A: Our browser extensions only inspect DOM elements of active Pinterest tabs to find Pin IDs and do not track your browsing history.
Q: Are the redirected download links safe?
A: Yes. All media files are fetched directly from Pinterest's official domains (pinimg.com), ensuring no third-party redirection risks.
Q: Does PinDL use Cloudflare protection?
A: Yes, we route all traffic through Cloudflare to handle DDoS mitigation and block malicious scraping bots at the edge layer.
Q: Can I delete my download logs?
A: We do not store identifiable download logs on our databases. You can clear your local visual history by clicking 'Clear History' on the main form.
Q: Does the site have SSL certification?
A: Yes, PinDL uses standard 256-bit TLS 1.3 encryption on all pages and API routes.

A: Yes. Our responsive layouts are optimized to score 95+ on Lighthouse audits across both mobile browser families.

A: No. Since PinDL resolves links in under 350ms, even 3G mobile connections can download images and short clips easily.
Troubleshooting Errors
Q: Why does it say 'Invalid Pinterest URL'?
A: Ensure the link contains '/pin/' or is a shortened 'pin.it' URL. The scraper does not support search query pages or profile boards.
Q: Why does the download fail to start?
A: This happens if Pinterest's CDN has connection spikes. Try reloading the page and pasting the link again.
Q: Can I download videos from a secret or private board?
A: No. Secret boards require account login credentials. PinDL does not store passwords, so it can only resolve public pins.
Q: Why does the resolved video have no sound?
A: Some Pinterest videos are uploaded without audio channels. If the source clip has no sound, the downloaded file will also be silent.
Q: Why does a GIF download as a static image?
A: Ensure you use the dedicated GIF Downloader page to extract the original `.gif` format instead of a preview JPG.
Q: How do I fix the 'Too Many Requests' error?
A: You have hit our rate limit. Please wait 60 seconds for the minute limit to reset or try again tomorrow.
Q: What do I do if the download is slow?
A: PinDL is linked to global CDNs. If downloads are slow, it is likely due to local network congestion or mobile bandwidth throttling.
Q: Can I download age-restricted pins?
A: We only resolve public pins that are publicly accessible without age-gate authentication parameters.
Q: Why did the site block my VPN?
A: Our firewall blocks VPN IP addresses that display suspicious automated bot traffic to protect the site from scraping attacks.
Q: Why is the file size so small?
A: Pinterest compresses uploads significantly. The file size reflects Pinterest's optimization algorithms, not PinDL's.
Legal & Copyright Policies
Q: Is it legal to download Pinterest videos?
A: Downloading videos for personal offline inspiration is legal. Commercial repurposing or re-uploading without permission is copyright infringement.
Q: Who owns the copyright of downloaded pins?
A: The copyright remains with the original creator who uploaded the content to Pinterest. PinDL does not claim ownership of any resolved media.
Q: Do I need to ask permission before downloading?
A: For personal use (viewing offline, study, design boards), you do not need to ask. For public sharing or publishing, you must get creator consent.
Q: Can I monetize downloaded Pinterest videos?
A: No. Re-sharing or monetizing another user's visual work without licensing violates copyright laws and Pinterest ToS.
Q: Is PinDL officially affiliated with Pinterest?
A: No. PinDL is an independent web tool. We are not associated, endorsed, or officially connected with Pinterest Inc.
Q: How can I request removal of a link?
A: If you are a copyright owner and want to restrict downloading of your public pins, contact us and we can block extraction of specific Pin IDs.
Q: Do you host files on your server?
A: No. PinDL acts as a proxy resolver. All media bytes are streamed directly from Pinterest's public CDN servers to your browser.
Q: Does downloading pins violate Pinterest ToS?
A: Pinterest forbids automated scraping. Since PinDL acts on manual user request to fetch single public elements, it operates under fair-use guidelines.
Q: Can I use these videos for educational projects?
A: Yes. Educational usage falls under Fair Use provisions, provided you attribute the original creator.
Q: How do I cite the original creator?
A: When sharing, link back to the original Pinterest Pin URL and mention the creator's username.
